Day 20 – Tour Day 2 San Jose – Tortoguero

We have left San Jose today for our 14 day G Adventures/National Geographic odyssey.  We were all up, checked out and on the bus by 6:30 this morning.  We have been picked up by a bus from Turtle Lodge in Tortoguero.

W stopped for a traditional Costa Rican breakfast of rice and beans about halfway to Tortoguero.  We had literally driven 10m down the road when the driver stopped and said sloth and lo-and-behold there was a 3 toed sloth in the tree – moss on it’s back and all.

After photos we were back on the road about 20 minutes and there was a 2 toed sloth sleeping on a fence in some bushes it was so peaceful.  We have now seen both types of sloth resident in Costa Rica.

On our trip down the river to the lodge we have seen crocodiles, caimans, green macaws, capuchin monkeys, turtles, iguanas, jesus lizards, a king fisher and finally a spider monkey (at the lodge with a baby it moved too quick to photo).

We have just had a dip in the pool and after dinner tonight we are going on a night boat ride down the river.  We are so happy with what we have seen so far, a jaguar would top it all off.
