Last night we went on a night boat ride along the canals and while we didn’t spot any sloths or jaguars we saw plenty of birds (the smallest and largest kingfisher in Costa Rica) including a rare heron as well as micro-bats and cayman. Pictures are hard at night so i apologise for the bullfrog and cayman.

In the morning we went out at dawn and saw much of what we saw last night but we also saw toucans and baby caymans nesting it was really worth getting up at 5am for.

After a rest we did a mud walk where we spotted lots of poison dart frogs (strawberry blue jeans).

In the evening we headed into Tortoguera where we visited the turtle conservancy a project working to conserve the turtle nesting areas. On the way we saw a big cayman, and howler monkeys.
