Day 29 – Manuel Antonio

Where has 14 days gone.  This is about day 11 of our G tour by my reckoning tomorrow is our last full day at Manual Antonio before we head back to San Jose on Friday. I’ve so lost track of days so whether we are day 28 or 29 who knows.  Most important thing is that we are all still having an a amazing time.

We have been to Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio to see if we can find any animals in the wild and boy did we.  We met our guide Dennis who took us through the park with a monocular/monoscope (who knows what it is called).

We hadn’t even gone 20m into the park when we spotted Lesser White Lined Bats and a black iguana (I didn’t get a photo of the bats πŸ˜’).

Then there were the blue and red land crabs (pretending to be venomous) by being colourful.

We spotted a chameleon – with the crowds it was too hard to give Dennis our camera for a photo.  After this we finally got to see a red eyed green frog (look up Costa Rica this is often the first image) unfortunately as it is nocturnal it’s eyes were closed. See if you can spot it.

We saw a yellow backed weaver.

There was a bird we saw at Tortoguero the Common Potoo – a night bird that looks like an owl but isn’t.  Unfortunately no photos again. From there we saw paper wasps, a false parrot snake (which moved before photos), a striped basilisk (below) in the Jesus Lizard family and an arrow backed spider (sans photo).

We saw capuchins, and howlers while we walked to the beach and 3 toed sloths!

After our tour finished a group of us hit a very warm Pacific for a swim watching naughty racoons and capuchin go through peoples bags.  Huge awesome day!

On the way out we saw squirrel monkeys – we’ve now seen all 4 species in Costa Rica.  If you can see them in this photo – gold star!

Happy Valentines Day Stu.
