Day 35 – Cahuita Final Full Day

Our final full day on the Caribbean.  Tomorrow we make the long short (I know how it reads but it’s true time v distance) drive back to San Jose and our last night together as 6.

We decided that we would visit the other sanctuary here on the Caribbean side – the Jaguar Rescue Centre.  Unlike the sloth centre which employs people this is run predominantly by volunteers with only 5 paid staff – one of which is a vet. They are funded through the tours/gift shop and private donations similar to the Sloth Sanctuary.

They are named on the first animal they helped – they do not have a jaguar though they do have a Margay and an ocelot (the picture below is an ocelot).  We now believe the tracks Stu and I saw on the beach yesterday were ocelot. I will let you identify some of the other animals.

The weather at lunch time was a bit crappy so we went to Puerto Viejo and had lunch at Outback Jack’s run by an Adelaide couple with an aversion to the local constabulary.

While we were eating lunch the wind died and the sun came out which meant the beaches were more swimmable so we spent the afternoon at Punta Uva just north of the Panamanian border (just) swimming, sitting and enjoying the last of our Caribbean dream.  Even Beyonce was looking the sea longingly.

After Jayenne got us home safely the were Toucans!
