It is really nice having absolutely nothing planned for the 2 full days we are on Koh Tao. We got asked last night if we wanted to book snorkelling but another guest here told us that lots of people book the snorkelling tours and they all end up at the same place at the same time. The hotel suggested we don’t book until the morning to see what the weather is like.
Luckily we didn’t book it for today as the weather is crap (colloquially speaking) it is very windy and the water is murky on our side of the island and the sea is quite rough.
Stu and I booked the hotel breakfast last night and it is similar to Lembongan you get three or four choices some cereal, coffee, juice and a fruit platter to share. It was nice to not over indulge – yes believe it or not I tend to go a little cray-cray with buffet breakfasts. Stu calls it my four course breakfast.
After breakfast we decided to walk to the end of the island and visit Shark Bay. The bay is home to hawksbill and green turtles and black tipped reef sharks (which aren’t aggressive). The walk is about 5km each way and despite the breeze this morning it is still very warm. Stu almost stepped on a green snake this morning. He googled it when we got back and according to google it isn’t venomous.
The lady at reception told us to go to the end of the road to get to a little beach on the side of the bay – this beach isn’t “owned” by any of the resorts and you wont get charged 100B per person for accessing the beach. I had forgotten my ear plug so Stu was the only one who could go into the water. It was lovely to be on a beach with about 15 people and only about 50 in the whole bay. The water is so clear and the reef still has some coral and a lot of parrot fish. A lady told us the turtles come about 2 pm a little further out so we will come back tomorrow.

We walked back to the hotel via Chalok Bay which looked beautiful this morning but the wind has whipped up all the sand. We had a dip in the ocean here but because you couldn’t see the bottom even in the shallow water so you couldn’t see rocks with opened oyster shells on them. I cut my hand when a wave pushed me onto a rock and Stu cut his knee. The shells are really sharp.

After we got back to the hotel we had a bit of a swim in the pool. The wind is really whipping up the ocean at the moment. Our little bay is supposed to be calm but you can’t see the bottom as the waves are whipping up all of the sand.
As we can’t go into the sea we decided to walk around to Sai Ree beach where all the bars and restaurants are and there is even rougher than we are. The wind is actually quite cool so while it is blowing you don’t notice the heat.

We had dinner at this little restaurant called Coffee Boat. Stu asked if the pork in chilly and basil was hot to which the lady replied yes, medium and Stu crazily said spicy I love spicy. So he got spicy, too spicy. Worst thing is we shared our 2 meals so i was eating his super spicy pork too. I should note I am addicted to Thai Tea, it is milky and sweet.
