Day 16 – Koh Tao

This morning the weather has not improved – it is still overcast and windy.  We hung around the hotel and went down to the village and got leg and foot massages hoping the weather would pass before 12:30 which is when our taxi was going to come to take us to Shark Bay.  We ended up cancelling the car and jumped in the pool for a little while.

The pictures below are before the wind whipped up too much.

Not happy Jan!

We both had a little FOMO so we decided to get a car to take us to Shark Bay in case it was better on that side of the island.  It was still pretty windy and choppy there but we did a little bit of snorkelling before really dark clouds rolled over.  We’d worn our water shoes this time so we didn’t get our feet hurt by the dead coral in the sand, and we figured we could walk home in these.

Walking home the rain started so we stopped at this little roadside place i had spotted yesterday and had the most amazing food.  They ran a little mini mart and out of what was effectively a garage they made about 8 or 9 dishes and some soups. I had chicken stir fry in roasted red chilli – it was really delicious.

We stopped in at a supermarket on our walk it has everything and by everything i even mean the kitchen sink it had a fully equipped construction section.

The wind has meant even swimming in the pool is pretty cold unless you keep your head underwater.  It is a bit hard to take that our luck with the weather in Singapore and Koh Samui hasn’t held out for the 3 nights in Koh Tao.  To alleviate our sunburns and sorrows we decided the get an Aloe Vera massage at the same place we got the foot massages this morning.  The gel was cold especially with the wind.  Most restaurants had their wet weather blinds down it was so windy.

I should add we tried no-name last night which is a dish the Thai traditionally make out of left over vegetables battered and deep fried.  It was nice but filling.

We needed to walk around a bit before we had a light dinner in a hole in the wall place in town.  We tried the morning glory dish and chicken and cashews.  The chicken and cashews had a bite to it.
