I’m writing this combined blog from the QANTAS Club at Singapore Airport which means we are at the end of our holiday.
Yesterday we flew from Bangkok to Singapore and surprisingly it is more humid here than Bangkok. We had to wake up really early as we were told the driver would need to pick us up at 6:30 to have us at the airport by 8:15 (3 hours before our flight). I did try to argue but was assured it was safer to do this due to traffic). When the driver arrived he said we could have left it until 7:30 as Sunday traffic is pretty light. We ended up at BKK at 7am so being tired and grumpy – having 4 hours to wander the airport was not pleasant. Lucky our flight was smooth (even though were bussed out to the plane again), we got through customs and immigration quickly and there was no queue for the taxi in Singapore.
After the Hilton our hotel (Village Hotel Bugis) is disappointing and the club access didn’t make up for it (the club is drab and has little windows with no view). We decided to go to the Fullerton to have a cocktail but the bar doesn’t open on Sundays. We went to the Dallas Steakhouse and had a nice cocktail on the river before we headed over to China Town.
It was the mid-Autumn festival so a number of stalls were closed but the mall areas were still decorated from the celebrations on Saturday night.
We explored the market stalls then found an old part we’d never explored called Ann Siang Hill Park. It is full of old shopfronts that have been converted to boutique hotels, bars and restaurants. There is a lot of cool graffiti around too. We may have to explore further when we are back next time. We picked up Stu’s Tin Tin resin as well.
Today (Monday) we went to Orchard Rd (all high end) and just wandered. We felt Bugis calling us so we hopped the MRT back to Bugis for a final explore and lunch (we may have had to buy a $30 suitcase to get everything home). Before we cleared immigration we had a quick look at the Jewel the new shopping centre with an indoor waterfall and garden. We are chilling with some G&Ts in the club.
