road trip day 3 – bundaberg

We are staying 2 nights at the Moore Park Beach Motel so we could get a day to explore the Bundaberg region. Moore Park Beach is a really quaint little seaside village which is really spread out. You feel like there are only a few people around you.

The motel is the old style roadside motel – but it is comfortable and only 100m from the beach.

We drove down to Bargara Beach after breakfast to look at the path that runs along the coast line. It is very beautiful but the tide was right up and we couldn’t get on to any of the beaches. We drove over to Mon Repos but it is a sanctuary so we couldn’t stop with the dogs.

After this we drove over to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery – we were only going to the retail outlet but everything was way too expensive.

We went to the Bundaberg Barrell where they make the soft drinks and bought a sampler and a 12 pack of diet ginger beer which was more affordable.

We decided we would drive down to Bundaberg Port which was very beautiful. There were some young guys jumping off the public jetty into the water – they said you can only do it at high tide and that it was quite deep around the jetty – they looked like they were having fun.

We drove back to Moore Park Beach and had a little rest then walked along the beach for a couple of hours. We saw some girls riding horses along the beach and Pat and Jeff had a chat with them. We finished the afternoon off buying dinner from the Bundy Burger van which was really good. They have a voucher scheme here at the moment with $5 off at local vendors – he was one of them. The food was very nice. Someone may have ordered a slice of Boston Mud Cake (not saying who).

Tomorrow we head up to Yeppoon via Seventeen Seventy.
