Road Trip Day 4 – Moore Park Beach to Yeppoon

Today was the final push up to Yeppoon. I’ve chosen to take us via the town of Seventeen Seventy or 1770 depending on the road sign you are going past. What I didn’t realise was that this was a long way off the beaten path in terms of driving to Yeppoon from Bundaberg.

The first leg was about 180km from Moore Park Beach through to 1770. This took just under 2 hours and there isn’t a lot to see along the road, although we did stop at a roadside coffee van in the middle of nowhere about 100km from 1770. This was a bad move the guy was really grumpy and the coffee wasn’t great.

We got to 1770 and had a look around (we didn’t go into Agnes Waters) – you can see from the sign it is stone fish and stinger season so I am assuming most people don’t go to 1770 to swim. I know everyone raves about 1770 but I would prefer to visit Bundaberg or Yeppoon.

The drive up to Yeppoon was very wet – we went through lots of bursts of rain. It took us almost 3 hours to get there from 1770. We’ve checked into Alexis’s house which has a beautiful view across the coast and back into the hinterland – I think it is looking back towards Emu Park rather than Rockhampton. While I was getting the keys we spotted some black cockatoos – something you don’t see down in Brisbane.

After we’d settled in we headed down into town and had a cocktail then a walk along the beach. It is very windy and there were a couple of kite surfers out on the water.

Tomorrow we’ll take a little drive around the local area and we are hoping the weather clears for Wednesday and our trip to Great Keppel Island.
