Today started off pretty miserably. We had pretty big storms most of the night last night and it was still raining when we got up. Stu managed to go for a run while it wasn’t raining but it was raining again by the time we were ready to head for the ferry.
It started to rain pretty steadily as we drove over to the ferry, we almost decided not to go over it was so wet but in the end we decided to go over any way. We were rewarded with some pretty nice weather (and some pretty sunburn).
The ferry leaves from Rosslyn Harbour and takes about 30 minutes to get to Great Keppel and lands on the beach at Great Keppel. They are saying if Gina Reinhardt takes over the resort on the island she may build a marina so in future you may not land on the beach any more.

We walked up to the Hideaway Resort and had a coffee then went down to the beach for a swim/walk. Neither of the dogs liked the water. We saw a couple of Sting Rays swimming in the shallows and a couple of turtles were playing out near a boat anchored off the beach.

I took Eric for a walk with Stu up to the end of the bay. We were walking back when we noticed goats up by a billabong. I had my camera and was taking photos and didn’t see an old tree trunk sitting just out of the sand – i walked straight into it and it went under the nail of my middle toe.

The guy who runs the resort was telling me the goats were put there (and all the islands up the coast) to help sailors who may become ship wrecked so they had a source of protein. They are now wild. Most islands don’t have them any more as they are national parks, Great Keppel is one of the few that isn’t.
I walked in the water back to the resort where there was a nurse who dresses it until we got back to the mainland. I sat up at the resort while Stu and his mum and dad finished their time on the beach. Apparently Eric dug a big hole by kicking sand all over Jeff. I did get to see my first echidna in the wild though.

After lunch we walked to where the ferry would pick us up and I sat at a little cafe/shop while they others had a swim. While the weather was beautiful we had a rough trip back.
