What a weird start to a holiday – I got a bad case of food poisoning two days before we left so I didn’t get much packing done until the Thursday morning before we left. The other thing that made it a weird start is that Brisbane and the north coast of NSW was hit by yet another rain bomb. Apparently we were lucky to leave when we did with a number of low lying parts of the highway being cut off.
Day 1 we were aiming for Port Macquarie and had booked a dog friendly room at the Narimba Motel which is on the Hasting River – needless to say everything was very muddy and wet but the owners were very understanding. The room was small but comfortable.
The motel is about 10 minutes out of town so we headed in and had dinner at the Beach House which is dog friendly. It was windy, wet and cold so we were all a little miserable by the end of it.
Eric hasn’t enjoyed the car – he is constantly trying to come up front so his seat belt got shortened about an hour into day 2 – again in the rain.

WE have arrived in Sydney and are staying at the Ovolo Woolloomooloo which is really nice and on the harbour. We had some lunch across the road and then went for a walk around to try and get to the Opera House through the Botanic Gardens. No Dogs Allowed. So we walked up through the park past the Gallery of NSW where they are having the Archibald Prize showing from tomorrow.
By the time we got back to the hotel Eric was very dirty and tired – We walk about 6km so we gave him a shower (he now won’t enter the bathroom) . When we got back they had set the room up for Eric – our original room wasn’t going to be ready in time so they moved us to a different room. There was a dog bed, blanket, bowl and a little gift bag for him. We’ve decided to settle in for the night – we will probably eat somewhere around the hotel.

The forecast for tomorrow is fine so we are hoping to get to Newtown and Bondi.
