Day 4 and 5 – canberra

Sunday was our final leg of the Brisbane to Canberra drive, and was the shortest leg. The roads have been amazingly quiet other than the last 100km when we came into Sydney, there haven’t even been too many trucks on the road either – I’m not sure if this is because of COVID or because we start early in the morning with the aim to be at our destination no later than 2pm.

We arrived in Canberra and the room wasn’t ready so we headed down to Tuggeranong and had lunch with Mum and Dad. We caught up with Byron, April, Malik and Lauren at the basketball at a hall at Tuggeranong.

We were both pretty shattered (I don’t know how I used to do the drive from Canberra to Brisbane in one go when I was younger) so we headed into the apartments, checked in and did a little walk around Braddon and the City. We had a cocktail at Assembly – which took half an hour to get – so we weren’t really in the mood to enjoy it when it finally arrived – we were really tired by this stage. We ended up ordering UberEats and just crashing.

Mum and Dad puppysat Eric today so that we could go to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. We try to get to Tidbinbilla whenever we get to Canberra we love walking around looking for Koalas and Platypi. Last time I was here I went with Mum and Dad and we didn’t see any. As we were getting close to the end of the walk Stu spotted a couple playing in the middle of the pond (blurry photographic proof in the last photo in the gallery below -zoom in). Stu also spotted a Bandicoot

We drove out through the Cotter (with signs saying no dogs) – I had said to Stu we should come here for a picnic while we are here but that won’t be happening now lol. The nature reserve is really peaceful and a great place to visit when you are in Canberra and across the road from it (pretty much) is the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station so you can make it a day out (just don’t take dogs).

We are back in town today – tomorrow we will either drive up to Jindabyne or out to Braidwood, we’ll think on that tonight lol. It’s supposed to get pretty cold tonight (for Queenslanders).
