DAY 7 – DRIVING

I wasn’t sure what I was going to call this but really this is what we did a lot of today. We spontaneously decided to get a driver and go to Bali Bird Park and Canggu. Stu has a friend from work staying at Canggu so we thought that it would be fun to go and visit.

We were picked up about 8:45 and got to the bird park at about 9:30. We had the park to ourselves for a little while which was nice. We walked through all the aviaries and at one of them they were doing a bird feeding. We got asked if we wanted a go – which we did. It was very interesting having the birds sitting on you eating out of your hands – figuratively and literally. We also got to see a free flight show – I’m pretty sure they have been raised from birth to do this as they didn’t even try to fly away.

After a quick cold drink we were off to Canggu, our driver warned us that the traffic would get bad as we got closer to Canggu. It was ok on the way in and we stopped at the beach and had a quick look. There wasn’t a lot there and it was all foreigners – as were the restaurants and cafes – all aimed at the digital nomads that have settled there. Any YouTube you watch chances are the content was made here. Bali has a new visa to attract the digital nomads and most places you go now there are collaboration spaces where you see content creators working together – there is one across the road from where we are staying in Sanur.

From Canggu we decided to head to Kuta, Legian and Seminyak to have a quick look around. This is when we hit traffic – it took almost an hour and a half just to turn towards Kerobokan. Our driver Kadek took us to a little restaurant to have lunch – the food was delicious. We then drove through Legian and Kuta along Jalan Seminyak/Jalan Legian. The traffic agains was pretty awful taking almost an hour to get from Seminyak to Legian. The big Bintang Supermarket burnt down during COVID and they have rebuilt it and it is now bigger than ever.

It was raining when we got back to the hotel so we chilled out a little before going for a walk. When the rain cleared Mt Agung and Mt Bartur were really clear off in to the distance, probably the clearest the whole time we have been here. The last photo is a resort that used to be the place the cool people hung out for the day. Of all the resorts I thought this would be the most likely to survive.
