Day 2 Singapore

Before I start – for Sandra Murray a photo of the Tintin keyring.

Another early day and another walk around Chinatown.  We managed to accidentally discover Maxwell Food Court which apparently is a must do – we will have to try it one lunch time.

We had breakfast at the hawker centre behind the hotel again this morning. Stu isn’t eating much at the moment as he has a bit of an upset tummy from going way too hard with the Chilli from the moment we arrived.

Today we went to the Botanic Gardens and the Orchid Garden.  The Botanic Gardens are massive, they are free to enter and wander around in but you have to pay to go to the Orchid Garden.

The Orchid Garden is amazing and has a really nice high altitude/cold orchid area that you can go into which is a relief after the heat of the day.  The only downside was lots of primary school kids making lots of noise while we were in the gardens.  The teacher tried valiantly but without success to keep them under control.

We wandered around the gardens for about 3 hours before heading back to Bugis St and the shops that we like to go to (mostly toy shops).

We purchased a few things including an insulated water bottle each, personal fans and a couple of cute mugs.  The mugs in the hotel room are too big to use the coffee bags/filters in.  Yes they are Hello Kitty and My Melody – Peter Schrader will get the joke, even if we didn’t buy him a mug .

We got back to the hotel by 3 and have had a dip in the pool and had a little poolside cocktail. There is a solemnisation ceremony by the pool – I googled this is a civil wedding in Singapore which I assume means that the have an officiant rather than a representative of a religion.

We are going to head to Chinatown tonight to find something plain for Stu to eat, maybe some Hainanese Chicken Rice.

  1. I loved all the orchid photos. That orchid garden is amazing. I went there in 1997. Hope Stu’s tummy is better. Did give me a giggle. Nice keyring 🙂
