Day 5 and Day 6 Singapore

I thought there wasn’t a lot to type for day 5, and day 6 separately so I decided to merge the two days together.  There won’t be a lot of pictures I am afraid.

Today we went to the IMM outlet store at Jurong East.  As nothing opens before 10 we took our time this morning and went for a big walk before coming back and getting ready for breakfast.

There is no per kg laundry service in Singapore so we found a laundry nearby where we could wash and dry our dirty clothes.  Laundry services in Singapore seem to charge by the piece and a shirt for example is about $12 SGD.  We managed to do all our laundry for $12 total.

The trip to Jurong East was uneventful.  Last time we were at Jurong there was only a single mall, and you could catch the bus to the bird park or the zoo.  This time there seemed to be about 10 malls all connected by something called the JWalk which is a covered walkway connecting a few buildings together.

The outlets at IMM were marginally cheaper than their full price counterparts but I don’t think it was much cheaper, and with the Aussie Dollar where it is now this didn’t make it cheap at all.  We ended up buying a couple of pairs of running shorts and I got some Havaianas (these were cheap compared to the main stores).

After exploring a couple of other malls we caught the MRT back to China Town in time for a shower and a couple of cocktails before heading out for more shopping (there are so many malls around Chintown. The darker almost inky black cocktail is called Darth Vader in Tight Jeans

After a bit more shopping we went to a restaurant nearby and had what turned out to be a very spicy. We should have listened to the waitress who said mild? Our response was normal. Sichuan food is very spicy and had dried chilli, chilly seeds and pepper corns that I can only assume is a Sichuan pepper (excuse spelling).

Today we caught up with Jayenne and Peter who headed over our way to have breakfast.  We were wandering around Chinatown when a heavy downpour hit so we holed up in the Chinatown market.  I tried Kopi “C”.  I was wondering how they put Vitamin C in coffee but it just meant condensed milk.  Making the coffee was quite a show with the man pouring coffee between large metal jugs.  The coffee was very sweet though – condensed milk and a tablespoon of white sugar.  We bought some sweets to go with the coffee – they were very delicious, especially the brown sugar and coconut balls.

We tried to spend time in the malls today while the rain came and went.  We ended up in Little India and had a late lunch of dumplings, naan and daal – which might have been a little too spicy but very delicious.

We met up with Jayenne and Peter for dinner in Little India and had a meal of Indian entrees.  I have hurt my back carrying a very heavy backpack all day today so we had a fairly early night and caught a cab back to our motel.

Tomorrow we are off to Thailand!!!
