Day 7 – Singapore to Thailand, Day 8 Thailand

What a whirlwind couple of days.  I have gone to write my blog on several occasions but just haven’t gotten there.  So here I am today trying to write this before our tour.

We changed countries on the 17th.  Transit days are always very interesting and can be quite intense as you go through hurry get packed and then the waiting game before the flight.  You don’t want to wander too far afield as you know you have to check out and get a taxi at some point during the day.

To fill our day in we had a very long early morning walk, packed and then had breakfast at our local food court.  We still had plenty of time left and just wandered around Chintown – shops do not open until 11.

We got to the airport about 12:30 went through Customs and immigration really smoothly (other than forgetting to put our sunscreen in our luggage so we had to decant it into small pump containers).

Singapore airport is still coming back from COVID and there is a lot not open but we all had some Singaporean cuisine at the food court in the termina.

The flight was on time and we were on the plane by 4, however our Brisbane contingent was nowhere to be seen.  The Captain made an announcement that thunder storms had delayed the arrival of the Australian flights but we were waiting for connecting passengers.  The Rogers contingent made the flight and once everyone was on board we were off to Thailand.

The trip through customs and immigration went pretty smoothly.  Thailand is still using the old manual system of immigration (Singapore have moved to e-gates.  Once we were all on the other side and had our luggage we were transferred to the Diamond Cliff Villas and Spa at Patong.

The hotel is very nice and we have an ocean view jacuzzi suite which is very spacious.  We ended up having a late dinner at the hotel restaurant taking advantage of the drinks/meals package included in our rooms.

Day 8 Phuket (18 May Birthday)

Today the plan was to have an early walk then have breakfast with everyone at about 8 am before hitting the pool/beach/markets then head to dinner at the place I had my 40th 12 years ago.  It has become pretty flash and is called Meg Khram now.

The day started off how we hoped with a walk along the beach then breakfast with everyone at 8am.  We then moved to the pool for a couple of hours and reconvened about 11 to walk down in to town to look around at the market and shops.

The weather was not our friend however as no sooner were we walking along one of the streets (we had managed to drop our laundry off) than it started to rain and rain hard.  We tried to keep walking but the weather was against us.  We ended up hiring a tuk-tuk to drive us around the town then take us back to the hotel for an early lunch.

After lunch now that it had stopped raining, Craig, Luke, Alice, Stu and I went for a walk into town.  We wandered around the markets buying a few bits and pieces then we decided we weren’t in Thailand until we had gotten foot massages.  We found somewhere that could do all 5 of us at once and had a very relaxing and much needed 45 minute foot massage.

When we got back from town we found that the hotel had dropped two birthday cakes off to Linsey and Craigs room which we decided could be desert after dinner tonight.

Alice had booked Meg Khram for 6pm.  We had an amazing time having dinner and cocktails as the sun set.  Everyone got to order whatever they wanted so Stu got to have fish and I had a green curry (which was delicious).

After we had our dinner we headed back to our room for cake.  Linsey, Craig, Molly and Jayenne joined us.  We only got through one cake so there is more left for tomorrow night (tonight as I am writing the blog).  The cake was delicious (I am using that word a lot).
