Day 1 Brisbane to Bali

Today we’re off to Bali. We are going to spend Christmas in Ubud but before we meet up with the Wise’s we are having a few days by ourselves. Tonight we’re staying in Sanur, the we are off to Lembongan island tomorrow for a few nights. The Wises will get to Bali on the 21st.

Craig picked us up nice and early and we were at the airport by about 6:30am. After a very quick check-in process we were through customs, immigration & on the other side by 7am. I had bought us a pass to the priority lounge, they had a black Friday sale a few weeks ago so we headed there as soon as we were through. Virgin haven’t reopened any of their lounges at the international airports in Australia. We had some breakfast and a little bubbly to celebrate starting our holidays.

The flight is pretty full and I thought we had leg room seats, which I world normally purchase but I’d hoped to upgrade to business. So, no leg room on this fight! Virgin are no longer a full service airline, we have had to purchase food and drinks on the flight. We didn’t want a full meal when they were serving at 10 am Brisbane time, but did feel like something when they did the second service. People must have been more familiar than us with the meal service and had purchased all the meals in the first round so we’ve had bickies and cheese and Pringles, and I had a pink gin.

Arrival in Denpasar was pretty smooth, we purchased our VOA and then lined up for immigration. We haven’t seen the airport this busy since they upgraded and expanded it. We were though pretty quickly, then we were off to our motel in Sanur.  We are staying at the 101 Bali Oasis in the heart of Sanur.  It’s just down the road from the Maya and is next door to the big Bintang supermarket.

We have got a pool access room which means we can walk straight out of our room into the pool.  The water is a bit cold but it was refreshing after the flight.  We are surprised that it’s actually hotter at home than here.

We had a late lunch of Satay Lilit Ayam and Gado Gado before exploring Sanur. We were surprised that after such a full flight, how few tourists there are in Sanur.  It is very quiet most restaurants only had one or two tables being used and the night market was empty.  Things don’t seem to have recovered from COVID in Sanur.  The big ION shopping centre is still being built so maybe we are here just before or after peak tourist season.
