Today we were in the bus almost all day. We left the hotel in Rosebank about 7:15 and have just arrived (17:15) at the Umbhaba Eco Lodge in Hazy View which is about 15 minutes or so (plus or minus as they say in Africa) from the gate to Kruger National Park.
The drive is over 500km and we had a little break in a roadside rest stop which is next to a private game reserve. We saw Elands, Ostriches and Water Buffalo. We also saw rhino’s on the side of the road but I wasn’t fast enough with my camera.

After lunch we visited two viewing stops on the way down to Hazy View. The first was at the top of Boyd’s River Canyon which is the third largest in the world and runs for 26km. The first stop had a view of the Three Rondavels. We were here for 25 minutes in which time Stu and I bought a few bits and pieces from some locals selling their wares. I would like to say I got a good bargain but we probably got an OK bargain.

From here we went to God’s Window which is at the top of the range that we need to go down to get to Kruger and the Savannah.

The view from God’s Window was beautiful. Looking along the end of the canyon and down into the valleys where there were lots of farms.
The lodge we are staying on is very quiet and beautiful we are in a room overlooking a little dam. The sunset view from the room was amazing.

I am adding this little bit on Saturday morning. It was Johannes’s birthday last night and the chefs made home a Ferraro Rocher birthday cake. We have signed our indemnities and wavers and are ready to go to Kruger at 5 am today (Saturday). I think tomorrow (Sunday) we get a sleep in before we head to Karongwe Private Game Reserve.
