Today is the official last day of the tour. We are heading back to Johannesburg to the Southern Sun where we will have our final dinner together as a group. Of the 14 of us 2 are off to Namibia, 2 are returning home and 10 of us are going on to Victoria Falls. In Victoria Falls we are all doing different activities so we may not see much of each other after tomorrow’s dinner.
Our early morning wake up call came at 5 am, however Stu and I had already been awake since 4 so we could shower and finish packing. We’re glad we did as we heard a lot of noise outside which sounded like Hyenas making a kill and calling out to each other. I asked Jack our guide who confirmed the hyenas were just across the creek and had made a kill. Stu had wanted to go outside and see – luckily he didn’t or he could have been a Hyena’s dinner.
Our safari drive was very eventful, the guides found the Cheetah brothers again and we got up even closer to them this time. We were told they were orphaned when they were very young and then taught to hunt which is why these three are comfortable around humans (the females are totally wild and live alone which apparently is how they normally are in the wild, solitary).

After the Cheetah’s we went well and truly off road (bushbashing) trying to find the lions – they had hidden in some dense shrubs and then were on the move across the river bank. We found the two juvenile males and were stopped no more than 10m from them. The first one was lying there and then the second one just walked past us (we were more nervous than he was).

On the way back to camp we got to see the large female and her two cubs. She had hidden the cubs so we couldn’t see them but she was just lying there as relaxed as anything, again we were stopped no more than 10m away from her.

After this we headed back to the lodge for breakfast spotting a baby Giraffe along the way. Stu saw a dazzle of Zebras just over from our room. We are going to miss Beck’s Safari Lodge it is so opulent and we’ve felt like we were royalty they have all treated us so well.

Tomorrow another early start – Victoria Falls Zimbabwe.
