Very early start this morning. The flight from Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur was scheduled to depart at 7am, which means airport about 4am. We were up at 2:30 and were in the middle of the first coffee of the day when we got an email advising the flight was delayed an hour, so we slowed down a little, and had an extra coffee before we headed to the airport.
When we arrived we dropped the car off at valet parking and lined up, this whole flight is economy so everyone is in the same boat (so to speak). I didn’t realise we could have been in a different line as we’d checked in online which was much shorter.
We had paid for legroom seats but yesterday we were told we had been put in row 27 (not legroom). I rang Batik who said we needed to ask at the airport or we would apply for a refund. The girl at check in was lovely and reinstated our exit row seats.
Nothing was really open in the airport, but by the time we had gone through immigration a couple of the smaller places were opening so we grabbed another coffee and a light breakfast. Because the flight was late and check in still opened at 4am we were at the airport for quite a while. We ended up doing laps – we got our 10,000 steps in by the time the plane arrived and they opened for boarding. We are flying Brisbane to Denpasar to KL today so we’ll be on this little 737 for about 10.5 hours and should land in KL about 16:15 KL Malaysian time.
As we sit here on the plane I am reflecting that I find writing the blog rather cathartic. It helps me relax and decompress and as the holidays get closer I start to get quite excited about writing this blog. Maybe there is something to keeping a journal after all.
We have checked into our hotel for the night – Ibis Styles Sepang which is right next to KL airport. We had a little drink – Stu had a margarita and I had a Coke Zero which I think was the better choice Stu said it was disappointing.
We then went across the road from the hotel to have dinner – very reminiscent of our Singapore dining experience with Jayenne and Peter. We had Roti Canai, thosai (dosa) and mee goereng. I haven’t been very quick at taking photos, I only just got one of the dosa before we ate it. The staff at the motel tried to talk us into not going but is was amazing food and with drink and tip was only $12 AUD.

I have a feeling that Malaysia is still a cash economy we had to pay the taxi cash from the airport and cash at the hawker centre. Hopefully we’ll find more electronic payments when we get to Langkawi.
We have to be at the airport at 7am tomorrow for our flight to Langkawi.
