The Ibis Styles had the feeling of a low security prison very industrial and in long blocks of demountable looking buildings. Despite its looks the rooms were quite comfortable if lacking in a few amenities.
The vending machines in the hallway weren’t working the night before so we had to use the bubblers that they had in the sitting area for our water. We only had one creamer each in the room so we could only have one coffee before we started the day.
This morning we had to be at the airport by 7 am as our flight to Langkawi had been pushed forward to 9am. We woke up a lot earlier than we’d planned, we were both awake by about 4:15 KL time.
Breakfast was at 6:30 (they had BBQ pork buns and a very delicious steamed coconut bun). The breakfast more than made up for the vending machines.

We caught the complimentary shuttle to the airport and were checked in by about 7:30. While we were wandering the airport we bought some Malaysian sweets for the trip over – for Craig’s benefit these were sweet potato donuts.

The flight to Langkawi was pretty uneventful, although there was some bad weather before we landed so we had to circle for a little while, the fast boat to Penang below us must have wondered what was happening as we kept circling it.
We picked up the car filming and photographing it before we left. I’ve booked this through Klook and a company called Anytime Rentals so we will see how this goes. The roads are very quiet so they are easy to drive around once I get used to the fact that I have to “drive” this car. I have gotten used to my BYD where everything is automatic and intuitive.
We arrived at our home for the next 6 nights (The Holliday Villa Beach Resort and Spa) by 10:30 and check in isn’t until 2. The motel is at the southern end of Tengah beach, so we decided to walk around and explore a little bit. It was very quiet, no cars and no tourists and nothing was open. We managed to find somewhere that served Malaysia food before we checked into our room. We have a view of the pool and can see the ocean.

We had a relax by the pool then cleaned up and headed to Pantai Cenang where they have a night market. We now know that our end of the beach is not the main tourist area, I think in a few years it will be there is a lot of development going on. Cenang seems to be where it is all happening.
We walked around for a while then had some dinner. I have Nasi Goreng Pattaya, fried rice in egg and Stu had a baked fish cooked in a tandoor. He said it was delicious.
