Langkawi – Day 3

I am worried that this holiday is going to go way too quickly. We are only in Langkawi for 6 nights. I am writing this blog at breakfast with a beautiful view of the gardens across to the pool and a little bit of the ocean on one corner.

I have obviously destressed as I am sleeping in until 6 (6:40 yesterday) and the only reason I woke up was because of the alarm (we have a hike booked).

Today (Monday) we don’t have anything booked we are just chillaxing which means we are walking 10km before lunch lol.

We had our breakfast and I wrote yesterday’s blog while Stu was doing his journal. After breakfast (9:30) we decided to walk up the beach to where Linsey and Craig stayed. We are at one tip of the south western part of the island and Linsey and Craig stayed up the north end. The walk is about 5.5km by the time you go around a couple of headlands and on to the road.

As we started the walk we saw they were cutting coconuts out of the tree. There was a man at the top hacking away with a machete and a man down the bottom with a rope. I thought the rope was for the man but it was to gently lower the coconuts to the ground. One of the gardeners had a broken arm – guessing I know how that happened.

The walk was lovely, very relaxing walking along the sand. The beaches are very clean here. I’m assuming they are kept clean by the resorts. Linsey and Craig stayed up at Cenang which is the touristy area. At night the beach at Cenang is busy but as we walked up the beach there were very few people out until we got up the far end of the beach.

We walked along the street nothing was open, no tourists were around it was very day of the dead, it was 11:30 and you couldn’t find a coffee (short of Starbucks). We tried a little juice place – do not order a pineapple smoothie – pineapple juice in milk (I threw it out and bought a Starbucks coffee).

We walked back to the motel and paid for infinity pool access (there is a pool here you pay 30RM for unless you are in a suite). Stu stayed at the pool until about 5pm I went and got a massage at 3. We had lunch by the pool and just soaked in the view with intermittent plunges into the infinity pool.

We drove to Ulu Melaka night markets which is in the middle of the island. This is a local rather than tourist market. We ate Char Kway Teow and Nasi Goreng wrapped in grease proof paper for dinner and finished it off with pancakes. We bought a couple of pieces of cake (banana cake and pandan cake) which we will take on our hike with us today.
