Another early morning walk for Stu and I. I just realised that I posted the photos on yesterday’s blog. We saw some dear in the field next to the house this morning. They are so beautiful, however I imagine they are probably a bit of a pest for the people trying to farm the land.
We drove over to the Malahat Skywalk today which is a tower overlooking one of the bays here on Vancouver Island. It was about 40km from where we are staying. As it turns out it is on the same highway, we will need to take tomorrow to get to Nanaimo so it was nice to be able to get a feel for how we get to the highway that goes north.
To get the skywalk you need to walk along a raised walkway that is in the tree tops at some points it crosses deep drops in the side of the mountain. The views of the forest and the bay is quite stunning.

The Malahat Skywalk gives you amazing 360 degree views of the forest and the bay all the way back to Victoria. I only got about 3/4 of the way up before I turned around, however Stu, Linsey and Molly got the whole way up. At the top there is a net you can stand on that is suspended above the tower. The three of them gave that a try. Stu and Molly came down via the slide.

After we were all down we followed a path back to the main building. There was a short slide built next to the path. Stu stood at the top but didn’t realise how slippery it was and slipped and fell cutting his arms on the side and sliding to the bottom, hitting his head against the slide when his backside came off and went into a divot at the end of the slide. While this was funny to watch it could have turned out much worse if he had hit his head at the top of the slide. The sides of the slide must have been quite sharp as he has a number of cuts on his arm.
From here we drove to Bear Mountain and had some lunch at the golf course. There is a lot of development going on here with apartment blocks being built at the top of the mountain. From what we could see as we drove past they would have amazing views back across to Victoria. There wasn’t much to do here (unless you play golf) so we headed to Fisherman’s Wharf after lunch.
Fisherman’s Wharf has a few houses where people live as well as a number of restaurants and bars. The houses all have signs saying they are someone’s residence, please do not go onto the houses. It must be very annoying being moored at the wharf and have everyone staring into your house.

After Molly had her dozen oysters (she has wanted to get oysters since Vancouver) at happy hour prices, we headed back to the house via the supermarket up the road. We were all so stuffed we just had cheese and crackers and crumpets for dinner.
