Canada day 19/Alaska day 3

Today we are going to Juneau, Alaska. We will be in port from 1pm until 9:30pm.

The morning is a lot calmer than last night, the boat was rocking and rolling when we went to bed. Stu and I had an early breakfast and then went up to the Crows Nest cafe. Everyone was up here this morning as the wildlife officer was doing whale spotting. There were a number of pods that we saw as we cruised up the passage.

We went to our room and sat on our balcony watching humpbacks the whole way into port. You pass a number of beautiful little islands on the way in. We spotted a couple of bald eagles in the port, they are very beautiful and majestic birds.

There are 2 ships in port today, ours and a Norwegian Cruise Line.

After queuing to get off the ship, we joined our tour to the Mendenhall Glacier. On the drive there was a black bear crossing a meadow, it was all so quick we couldn’t get a photo.

I feel I’m overusing the word beautiful, however the glacier is beautiful. As we walked to nugget falls there was a porcupine up a tree which caught everyone’s attention. There was also a bald eagle.

It was very wet in Juneau, which apparently is situation normal. It was so wet we decided to head back to the ship for dinner after a bit of retail therapy in town. Everything is discounted because we are one of the last cruises of the season.

Tomorrow Skagway!
