Day 10 – Parque Tayrona

Today we booked a tour to Paque Tayrona a national park between our hotel and Santa Marta.  After further upsetting a large group of German’s at breakfast this morning (they want our table – the very table i am writing this blog at now) so that there whole group can sit together however instead of asking they sat and complained and carried on as if we had committed some kind of mortal sin.

Our guide to the park today was Geraldo.  He met us after we caught the public bus for just under an hour to the park entrance.  After a bit of confusion with ticketing we were in a bus for the 4km trip to the car park at the entrance to the walking track.  It is quite a hike into the park and to the final beach Cabo San Juan – it took us a couple of hours to complete.  The views while you walk through are amazing you know you are on the Caribbean.  Unfortunately as the park is closing for a month there were lots of tourists and locals at the park today which also meant  lots of noise and only one monkey sighting.

Once we got to the beach we had a dip then we went back to the third beach (there are 5 in total that you go past) for a great lunch.  Stu and Jayenne had the fish and Peter and i had chicken.  Stu and Jayenne went to the stall next door and got us coconut.  Beyonce tried to eat my lunch, and drink my drink then Stu’s lunch tried to eat her.

We then walked back to the 4th beach aptly called the pool which was a calm beach where you can snorkel before walking the 2 hours out of the park before it closed at 5.

They use mules and horses to move stuff and people around Tayrona so you have to watch out as you walk especially as the horses are sometimes running.

We are now back at the hotel enjoying cocktails and a light dinner.
