We are off to Wiwa Camp today. The hike today was about 8km and we had 4.5 hours to make the distance. There was a fair amount of uphill today some of which was as steep as yesterday if not more. We had two breaks on the way to Wiwa camp again with watermelon to entice us to stop 2. Again there was amazing scenery on the way but it so hard to stop and take photos with a camera in your backpack. I hope the iPhone does the scenery justice. One thing going through most of our heads as we hiked day 2’s downhill components is that on day 5 we have to go up this and Day 1’s hills. On Day 5 we hike from Wiwa to Machete in 5.5 hours a very hilly 14km.

Before lunch today we were taken to an amazing watering hole to have a swim – the watering hole is at the bottom of a waterfall. It was a postcard like setting with people sitting at the bottom of the waterfall.
Before dinner we learnt about how the Wiwa dry their coca leaves with river rocks heated up in the fire then placed in bags (mochila’s) and rolled and tossed around to heat the leaves enough to dry them without causing too much damage to them. We also learnt how they create the fibre used to make the mochila (a woven bag) the bag that every indigenous person seems to carry regardless of age and which the men use to store their coca leaves and poporo.
The photos are Wiwa camp.
