Day 3 Cape Town – Continued

We went out to dinner last night to a restaurant called Karibu. It serves authentic South African and Malaysian fusion dishes. Peter and Jayenne told us that Cape Town has a strong Malay influence with a fusion between Malay and South African flavours.

I decided I was going to choose a dish called Denningsvleis which is a lamb curry with tamarind flavours. The curries on the menu were called Bredies which means stew. Stu decided to have the ostrich steak (which was delicious and tasted like smoked lamb/chicken). We also had boboitie spring rolls served with banana yoghurt and chutney. Bobotie is a South African cooking method based on a beef mince caserole with a layer of egg over it.

While we were having dinner the African singers from earlier that day came in to the restaurant and sang happy birthday at the tables where people were having birthdays so Peter let them know that it was Jayenne’s birthday so they came and sang at our table too.

I had ordered a cocktail and the waiter came over to ask if I would wait until after dinner to have it. When it came out I understood why it was like a banana chocolate milkshake.
