Canada day 4

We are off to Vancouver Island today!

We had a little bit of a sleep in this morning (we had a little bit of a late night last night especially for me) as we didn’t have to be at the airport until 10 this morning.

We caught an Uber out to the airport, the driver was a little unfriendly and didn’t engage with us at all. I think it started when I tried to get one of the suitcases in and I slid it instead of lifted it and the luggage mat moved.

The pick up went nice and smoothly. We’ve hired a Kia minivan (pictures to come) which will be our transportation for the next 13 days. After we picked up the car we were off to Tsawwassen where the ferries to Victoria leave from.

Just before you get to the ferry terminal there is a huge shopping precinct which had a Walmart. We stopped and did a little shopping, we got some groceries (read junk) and Stu and I bought a couple of hoodies.

After Walmart we headed to the Ferry and got our car in the lineup. You can then leave your car and go into the terminal and do more shopping.

The ferry takes about 90 minutes and you go through a bit of an archipelago as you come into Vancouver Island. It is all very beautiful and pristine but we did wonder how people on some of the islands got their building materials over.

We got to our Airbnb at Cedar Creek (near Beaver Lake) at just after three. It’s a beautiful cottage in the woods and feels very isolated. After we’d settled in we went for a big walk following a marked walking track around the woods. At one point there was a warning sign that a cougar had been spotted recently, so we took that very seriously and walked with caution.

We needed to do a little bit of grocery shopping (yes we had bought mostly junk food at Walmart) so we went to a nearby strip mall and had some Greek food for dinner.
